MARION, VIRGINIA: HARRY CALHOUN MEEK, age 85, died Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie, Virginia.
He was born to the late James and Ollie Calhoun Meek.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Tom, Jack, Guy and Pete Meek; two sisters, Nancy Osborne and Judy Meek; one step-son, Mike Baumgarner and his first wife, Laura Farmer Meek.
He was a long-time member of Liberty Freewill Baptist Church.
Mr. Meek was a veteran of World War II having served in the U. S. Navy.
He retired from Southwestern State Hospital after 33 years of service and was a life-time member of Francis Marion VFW Post 4667.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Baumgarner Meek of Marion, Virginia; one step-daughter, Millie Blevins and husband David of Chilhowie, Virginia; one step-son, Greg Baumgarner and wife, Kathy of Marion, Virginia; three sisters, Eula Brooks, Sally Testerman and Gladys
Hubble; sister-in-law, Myrtle Meek, Marion, Virginia; brother-in-law, Reverend David Neitch and wife, Barbara, Marion, Virginia; one step-grandchild, Alan Baumgarner and wife, Anna all of Marion, Virginia; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 7, 2009 at 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Reverend David Neitch officiating. Graveside services will be held Friday, at 11 a.m. at Haw Orchard Cemetery in Grayson County, Virginia where Military Rites will be conducted by Francis Marion VFW Post 4667. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 p.m. until time of the service.
