MARION, VIRGINIA: HAZEL DUNCAN ATKINS, age 90, died Friday, November 8, 2013 at Francis Marion Manor. Born on February 4, 1923 to Flossie and Edd Duncan in Draper, Virginia, she was a long time faithful member of First United Methodist Church in Marion. She was retired from Baldwin's Department Store, after which she had been a faithful volunteer with the Smyth County Community Hospital Auxiliary, where she worked more than 7000 hours before failing health prevented her from continuing.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Harlow Cameron Atkins. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and David Archer of Marion, Virginia; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Jane Atkins of Forest, Virginia and Dennis and Sharon Atkins of Virginia Beach, Virginia; a brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Imogene Duncan of Punta Gorda, Florida, a sister-in-law, Pedie Duncan of Miami, Florida; six grandchildren, Shannon Archer and wife Kathleen of Bluffton, South Carolina, Travis Archer and wife Kelly of Wytheville, Virginia, Chris Archer and wife Whitney of Bristol, Virginia, Chris Atkins and wife Barbara of Lynchburg, Virginia, Terri Turner and husband, Ian, of Bradenton, Florida, and Krystal Taylor and husband Billy of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, November 11, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Mr. Brian Cregger officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Cemetery in Marion, Virginia. Family will receive friends before the service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
