Helen Meek

HELEN LIETO MEEK, age 88 passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2011, after a brief illness. Helen was a lifelong resident of Smyth County and was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Wolfe Lieto. She was married to Joe L. Meek who passed away in 1996. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Betty and Marguerite and her brother, Thomas. Helen and Joe were long-time local business owners. Helen will be remembered for her generosity and her great sense of humor. She is survived by two daughters, Janet L. Meek and Mary Cameron Harris; one sister, Dorothy Huffman; three granddaughters, Terra Meek, Jessica McNutt, and Lara Harris; and great grandson, Terran Joseph Meek. Helen held great love for her closest friends, Nancy and H.C. Hart and Tom and Jennifer LeFew, who were always there for her. She will also be missed greatly by her loyal companion for the last 10 years, Gizmo her cat. The family will receive friends Monday, January 10, 2011, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Seaver Brown Chapel, Marion, Virginia. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Reverend John Graham officiating. Private burial will be held in Laurel Springs Cemetery. Helen gave to numerous charities and in lieu of flowers she would want memorial contributions made to a charity of your choice.
