Helen Curran Boyd Stambaugh, 94, of Marion, VA passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, October 27, 2011 in her home.
Helen was born on October 25, 1917 in Davy, West Virginia. She married Marcus Milton "Icky" Stambaugh on June 1, 1939. After celebrating over 50 years of marriage he preceded her in death in 1990.
In 1920, when she was three years old, her family moved to Christiansburg, VA where she lived until she was married. Helen and Icky moved to Pulaski, VA for several years until she moved to Marion, VA where she lived the remainder of her life. Helen was a member of the Royal Oak Presbyterian Church in Marion, VA. Helen enjoyed sewing, cooking, and playing Bridge. She was a very strong spirited, spunky lady who loved her family above all else. She was known for her pranks and wit which were always present during annual family visits to Plum Nelly in Farmville, VA.
Helen was the daughter of the late Patrick Cabel Boyd and Sallie Elizabeth Duncan Boyd. She is also preceded in death by her sister Lalla Virginia Boyd Brightwell.
Helen is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Sallie and Billy Lefler of Marion, VA; four grandchildren and their spouses, BJ and Tim Roberson of Cleveland, TN, Sallie and Bill Moss, Shaun and Jessie Lefler, all of Marion VA and Durell Lefler of Wilmington, NC; her sister Juliet Massie Boyd Blount of Christiansburg, VA; as well as seven great-grandchildren and one on the way; several special nieces, nephews and close family friends.
A celebration of her life will be held at the Abundant Life Christian Center in Seven Mile Ford, VA on Saturday, October 29th at 2:00 with Pastor Dave Scott officiating. The internment of her crematory urn will take place at a later date at Sunset Cemetery in Christiansburg, VA.
