MARION, VIRGINIA: HORACE D. McCLELLAN, age 89, died Wednesday, April 22, 2009 in Duluth, Georgia. He was born in Marion, Virginia, July 6, 1919, to Shular McClellan and Bessie Elliott McClellan. He was preceded in death by Lois Richardson McClellan, his first wife, and Arlene BeVille McClellan, his second wife; two sisters, Mable Lovelace and Irene Houston. He is survived by one daughter and two sons, Judy Bales and husband Ron of Marion, Bill McClellan and wife Carolyn of Marion, Warren McClellan and wife Celeste of Duluth, Georgia; two stepsons, Charles BeVille and wife Peggy of Clearwater, Florida, Donald BeVille and wife Carol, of Vinton, Virginia; sister, Murrell Chaffin, Dublin, Virginia; five grandchildren, Annette Eaton and husband Mark, Lynda Beech and husband Chris, Justin McClellan, Chad Bales and wife Lori, Elizabeth Bales Holman and husband Andrew, and Craig McClellan; three step- grandchildren, Jamie, Donna and Eric BeVille. Also surviving are eight great-grandchildren, Alex Eaton, Shelby and Jenna Coalson, Coleman, Myah and Abby Bales, Harrison and Broden Holman; one step-great-grandchild Maggie BeVille. He helped obtain the Virginia Farm Bureau Charter for Southwest Virginia and in 1950 became the Bureaus first Insurance Agent and District Manager. He was an active member of the Chamber of Commerce, serving as president in 1981 when it became Smyth County Chamber of Commerce. In 1998 he was presented the Kiwanian of the Year Award by the Marion Kiwanis Club. He was a member of Laurel Springs United Methodist Church and later became active in First United Methodist Church of Marion. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 24, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Reverend Jonathan Jonas and Reverend John Graham officiating. Graveside services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Rose Lawn Cemetery in Marion, Virginia. The family will receive friends Friday evening following the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Laurel Springs United Methodist Church 935 Laurel Springs Road, Marion, VA 24354.
