MARION, Va.
Howard Glenn Roland, Jr., age 59, passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at Johnson City Medical Center, following a brief illness.
He was born October 7, 1957 in Marion, Va. to the late H. Glenn Roland, Sr. and MaryAnne Wade Roland. Howard graduated from Marion Senior High School and attended East Tennessee State University. He was employed with Combined Insurance as a Director of Management and Training for over 20 years. For many years, Howard loved hunting, boating and performing; having played lead guitar and vocals in numerous bands from age 15 until just a few years ago with the Travelers Revision. His strong love of God and country was evident in recent years by his support of Boy Scout Troop 93, First United Methodist Church, and the Sea Cadets Program and his support and advocacy of all branches of the United States Military. He was also involved in Amateur Radio across the country going by the call sign, KI4LWA. Howard truly loved life, and never met a stranger.
Howard is survived by two sons, Adam Glenn Roland and wife, Megan of Roanoke, Va. and Andrew Howard Roland of Marion, Va.; one sister, Carolyn Bolton and husband, Greg of Parkersburg, W.Va.
A Memorial service and Celebration of Howard’s life will be held Sunday, February 19, 2017 at 3 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 115 South Church Street, Marion Va. with the Reverend David Woody officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday, February 18, 2017 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel, Marion, Va.
