Ida Malene Millard, of Marion, passed away Thursday evening, April 1st, at the age of 88 in Lynchburg, Va.
She was a wonderful and loving mother and grandmother who especially enjoyed being with her sons and their families. She loved flowers and working in her garden. Her kind and gentle nature will be greatly missed by all those who love her.
Mrs. Millard was preceded in death by her husband, Claude O. Millard, and two brothers, Herman and French Pugh; all of whom welcome her home.
She was a long time member of the Marion Baptist Church in Marion, Va. for over 60 years. She faithfully volunteered for 20+ years as a Pink Lady at Smyth County Community Hospital.
Survived by:
Three sons: John Millard and wife Bonnie, of Salem, Va; Ray Millard and wife Tina, of Lynchburg, Va; and Richard Millard and wife Susan, of Stokesdale, NC.
Seven grandchildren: Eric Millard and wife Melissa, Ryan Millard and wife Lindsay, Lauren Millard Schekman and husband Jesse, Megan Millard, Kendall Millard, Brian Duncan, and Chris Duncan.
Three great-grandchildren: Thomas Millard, Ethan Millard, and Raiden Schekman.
Many heartfelt thanks to the Summit in Lynchburg where Mrs. Millard was a resident, and especially to the doctors and nurses of the General Medical Unit at Lynchburg General Hospital for their loving care for Mrs. Millard.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 5, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Marion Baptist Church with Dr. Mark Ross officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Burial will be in Rose Lawn Cemetery, Marion, Virginia.
