MARION, Va.: IRENE PRESTON BROWN, age 89, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 17, 2016 at her home in Marion, Va.
Mrs. Brown was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church, Marion, Virginia and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and a 60 year plus member of The Order of the Eastern Star. She was a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute. Mrs. Brown was a licensed funeral director and assisted her late husband for many years at Seaver-Brown Funeral Home. She was also the original owner of the Marion Flower Shop. Today, both of these businesses remain in her family’s care. Something she was very proud of.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Malcolm M. Brown, Jr.; son, Malcolm M. “Mal” Brown, III; parents, Thomas Montgomery and Clara Rebecca Brown Preston; sister, Isabelle Preston Jackson; brother, Thomas Ballard Preston.
Mrs. Brown is survived by her daughter, Becky Brown Rankin; daughter-in-law, Sharon Rouse Brown; grandson, Malcolm M. Brown, IV and wife, Dr. Jenna S. Moore; granddaughter, Emily Claire Rankin; great-granddaughter, Zoe Aurelia Brown, all of Marion, Va.; special niece, Mary Helen Preston; and loving sister-in-law, Martha Preston.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 20, 2016 at 7 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Reverend John Graham and Reverend David Woody officiating. Graveside service will be held Monday, March 21, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Rose Lawn Cemetery, Marion, Va. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5 p.m. until the time of service at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
