MARION, VIRGINIA: IRENE R. HAGA, 87 entered into eternal rest on April 23, 2014. She was born on July 4, 1926 in Smyth County, VA, the daughter of Harlow and Ada Reedy. She married Ernest W. "Buck" Haga on May 10, 1951. They made their home in Norfolk from then until 1977 when they retired to Marion. She returned to Norfolk in May 1991 after her husband's death the previous year.
She was a member of Norview Baptist Church and was active with the Five Pointers group. Until her sight became an issue she was an avid reader. She volunteered for over 15 years with the American Cancer Society after she returned to Norfolk in 1991.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter, Barbara Haga, her son and his wife, Alan and Martha Haga and their children Jay, Rachel, and Josh. She is also survived by two sisters who were very dear to her, Helen Sturgill of Culpeper, VA, and Edna Ernest of Marion, VA. She will be remembered by 19 nieces and nephews. She was lovingly cared for by Ginny Gibbs Lawson and several other caregivers over the past two and a half years.
A graveside service will be held, Monday, April 28, 2014 at Slemp Cemetery in Sugar Grove, Virginia with Reverend Stephanie Porter-Nichols officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday, April 29, 2014 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel in Marion, Virginia.
