MARION, VIRGINIA: IRENE E. NICKOLS, age 80, widow of John Nickols, died Sunday, January 09, 2005 in Smyth County Community Hospital. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, John Thomas Nickols. She was owner of Irene's Ceramics Shop for 22 years. She bowled with the Housewives League for 6 years and kept the Church and Bowling Nurseries. Mrs. Nickols was very active with the Cub Scouts for 11 years having worked with Pack 90 and Pack 806. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Judy Hash and Ken Spiers of Suffolk, Virginia. One son and one daughter-in-law, Joseph and Trudy Nickols of Marion, Virginia. One sister, Marie Eleanor Blanchett of Baltimore, Maryland. Two sisters-in-law, Bessie Nicholopoulos of Hendersonville, North Carolina and Xanthe Nicholos of Cary, North Carolina. Four nephews. Special Friends, Charlotte Sharitz, Bryan and Annie Clark and Alice Neel. Twelve grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, January 13, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Rev. Harry Howe and Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery, Marion, Virginia. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Marion Life Saving Crew, P.O. Box 784, Marion, Virginia 24354. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
