ISAAC HUGH SLAGLE, age 89, passed away Sunday, May 12, 2019 at Carrington Place at Rural Retreat, Va.
Hugh was a long-time member of Marion First United Methodist Church, he served on numerous committees. He graduated from Marion High School in 1947. Enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1950 and was a life member of the VFW. Hugh was a graduate of VPI and was elected a senator representing the Civilian Student Body. He served two terms as President of Marion Lions Club and served as Director and Vice-President of the Settlers Museum. Hugh was an avid golfer and loved Virginia Tech Football. He participated in work mission trips to Haiti, Missouri and six other southern states. Hugh was employed as treasurer and vice-president of Marion Bottling Company (Pepsi-Cola) for 28 years. He retired from RKO Bottlers and Pepsi Cola Bottlers of Chicago (successor of MBC) in 1988.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wiley W. and Cora Mae Hawks Slagle; his sisters, Lillian V. Slagle, Frances S. Chaffins; his brothers, Clarence L. Slagle and Fred W. Slagle.
Hugh is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Dantzler Slagle of Marion, Virginia; daughter, Cynthia “Cindy” Flickinger and husband, Scott of Warsaw, Va. and son, James “Jay” Slagle of Stuarts Draft, Va.; grandchildren, Josh Flickinger of Three Rivers, Ca. and Sara Flickinger of Radford, Va.; sister, Joan S. Tucker and husband, Roy of Marion, Va.; sisters-in-law Delba Slagle, Emily Briscoe, Kay Blanton and husband, Ricky; brothers-in-law, Bryan Dantzler and wife, Margaret, Dan Dantzler and wife, Karen; step-sister-in-law, Sylvia Shinn of Dubuque, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Marion, Va. with Pastor David Woody and Bryan Dantzler officiating. Burial will follow in Round Hill Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard and Francis Marion VFW Post #4667. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 14, 2019 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Food Pantry, 115 South Church Street, Marion, Va. 24354.
