Jackie D. Roop

Jackie D. Roop, age 86, passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2022 at Johnston Memorial Hospital. 

 Jackie was born April 18, 1936 to the late Elza Roop and Lillian Shepherd Roop in Charleston, W. Va.  He was a veteran of the United States Army and served 15 years in the United States Army Reserves.  He retired from General Dynamics after 48 years of service.  He attended Bethel Baptist Church and was an avid outdoorsman. 

In addition to his parents, Jackie was also preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Roop. 

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, June Roop; two daughters, Remonia Dolinger and husband, Breece of Damascus, Va. and Regina Roop of Troutdale, Va.; brother, Robert Roop of Troutdale, Va.; sister-in-law, Wanda Blevins of Woodridge, Va.; and granddaughter, Rebecca Futrell and husband, Brad of Easley, S.C. 

The family will receive friends Thursday, December 29, 2022 from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.  Funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. with Pastor Jerry Fritz officiating. Burial will follow at McDaniel’s Family Cemetery, 6221 Whitetop Rd, Troutdale (Konnarock), VA 24378. Military Rites will be conducted by the U.S. Army Funeral Honors Guard and Francis Marion VFW Post #4667.
