MARION, Va.: JACKSON B. McCARTY, JR. age 87 passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Francis Marion Manor.
He was born November 19, 1928 in Marion, Va. to the late J.B. and Laura Buchanan McCarty. Mr. McCarty was educated in Smyth County public schools and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from King College, Bristol, Tn. He was very active in his community having served as president of the JC’s and the Kiwanis Club; former director of the Holston Hills Country Club, an Elder of Royal Oak Presbyterian Church and a Trustee of King College.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Spiller McCarty McCoy; and brothers-in-law, Edward McCoy and Don Jones.
Mr. McCarty is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Rosamond Calhoun McCarty of Marion, Va.; daughters, Gwyn M. Snider and husband, Jeff of Hampstead, N.C. and Laura M. Waddell and husband, Chris of Nashville, Tn; son, Jackson B. McCarty, III and wife, Donna of Marion, Va; six grandchildren, Beattie Sturgill and wife, Ali, Dr. Emma Sturgill, Joseph Ruckert, Quincy Ruckert and fiancé Erika Forland, Katherine McCarty and Grayson McCarty; sister-in-law. Carolyn Jones; nieces and nephew, Linda Wittenstein, Spiller Gregory, Kathy Cook, Cal Jones, their spouses and children; and numerous cousins.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 25, 2016 at 3 p.m. at Royal Oak Presbyterian Church with Pastor Alan Gray and Dr. Angus Shaw officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Fellowship Hall of Royal Oak Presbyterian Church. Graveside services will be held Saturday, March 26, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Rich Valley Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
