MARION, Va. James Curtis Anderson, age 85, passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, Monday, December 26, 2016 at Smyth County Community Hospital. He served his country in the US Army in Korea and was a lifetime member of Francis Marion VFW Post #4667. He retired from Pepsi after 44 years, and was an avid gardener, who never met a stranger. Mr. Anderson was a loving husband, dad, and grandfather, who loved his family and the Lord. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Mae Anderson; and brother, Herbert Anderson. Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife of 64 years, Kathleen “Kitty” Anderson; one son, Michael Curtis Anderson and wife, Karen; special granddaughter, who was the love of his life, Caylin Lauren Anderson; special granddog, Mindy, all of Marion, Va.; two sisters, Sue Cressel and husband, Ed of Bristol, Tenn., and Connie Gross of Seven-Mile-Ford, Va.; three brothers, Bob Anderson and wife, Sis of Sugar Grove, Va., Rex Anderson and wife, Jodie of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Ron Anderson and wife, Theresa of Sugar Grove, Va.; special friends, Bud Sword, Roy and Helen McNeil, Cecil and Lena Carter, Dorothy Cortner, Joe and Jo Ann Lamie, Paul and Rachel Liberto, Dean and Barbara Anderson, and Dr. Jack Alvarado; loving care givers, Jennifer Cornett and Bridgett Hutton; and many other special and loved family members. The family would like to say a special thank you to the nurses and staff at Smyth County Community Hospital. Funeral services will be held, Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at 7 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Pastor Don Elswick and the Reverend Neville Mozingo officiating. Graveside services will be held Thursday, December 29, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Rose Lawn Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by Francis Marion VFW Post #4667. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 until 7 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation Inc., Columbia Office, 710 West 168th St., New York, NY 10032.
