JAMES R. BOWMAN
James R. "Buck" Bowman, 70, of Marion, died Saturday, February 21st, 2004 in the Smyth County Community Hospital.
Born in Smyth County, he was the son of the late Harrison and Grace Wolfe Bowman. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the United States Navy and was retired from Brunswick Corporation with over 35 years of service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Delmar Ray, Leroy "Sam", Ralph "Hooch", Kenneth, Harrison "June", and Charles Henry Bowman, and three sisters, Katie Doane, Elizabeth Pierce and Ruth Bowman.
Buck was an avid Virginia Tech Football Fan and and enjoyed his garden.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Shirley Wyatt Bowman of Marion. Two daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Rick Yarber and Brenda and Wayne Taylor, all of Marion. Three sons and daughters-in-law, J.R. and Peggy Bowman of Abingdon, Dale and Virginia Dawn Bowman of Marion and Billy Bowman of Bluemont, Virginia. One sister, Mrs. Bruce (Ann) Price of Marion. Eleven grandchildren, Levi Yarber, Lucas Yarber, Leslie Yarber, Brandy Taylor, Sandy Taylor, Kayla Taylor, Dustin Bowman, Chad Bowman, Beth Bowman Cato, Brandon Bowman and Kelsey Hart. Four great-grandchildren, Abby Yarber, Aubanie Yarber, Cole Yarber and Lily Bowman. Four step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 23rd at 11:00 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Otis Barker and the Rev. Mike Sage officiating. Interment will follow in the Rose Lawn Cemetery with Military rites conducted by Marion V.F.W. Post # 4667.
The famiy will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 5 til 7 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
