James Ronald "J.R." Bowman, Jr.

MARION, Va.

James Ronald “J.R.” Bowman, age 66, passed away Saturday, May 21, 2022 at his home.

J.R. loved living life – especially being with family and the ones who called him Papaw Bowman. J.R. retired after 44 years with General Dynamics as a Pattern Maker. When he wasn’t working, his favorite place was outdoors. He loved to hunt, fish, cycling, bird watching and was a lifetime member of the NRA. J.R. was a patriotic man who loved his country. There was only one J.R. – and he will be missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James “Buck” and Shirley Bowman.

J.R. is survived by his life partner of 12 years, Martha DeBord of Marion, Va.; daughter, Beth Cato (Chas Davis) of Richmond, Va.; sons, Dustin Bowman (Anna) of Marion, Va. and Chad Bowman of Chilhowie, Va.; sisters, Brenda Taylor (Wayne) and Debbie Yarber (Rick) all of Marion, Va.; brothers, Dale Bowman (Jinnie) of Marion, Va. and Billy Bowman of Bluemont, Va.; grandchildren, Lily Bowman, Samuel Bowman, Chance Lowe and Isaac Bowman; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 25, 2022 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Graveside services will be held Thursday, May 26, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Rose Lawn Cemetery with Pastor Mike Halsey officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet at Seaver-Brown Funeral Home at 10 a.m. for procession to the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Chuck Osborne, Gary Hawthorne, Dale Osborne, Kenny Bowman, Tinker Bowman, Mike DeBord and Dean Dillman; Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
