BRISTOL, Va.
James Cary Perkins, age 71, died Sunday, June 3, 2018 at Duke Hospice, Durham N.C.
He was born August 3, 1946 in Atlanta, Ga. to the late James and Reba Perkins. Cary was a loving husband, dad and grandfather. His grandchildren were very special to him. He enjoyed being outdoors – hiking, fishing, camping and working in the garden. Cary had many fond memories of his Leslie Street neighborhood, but his favorite places in the world were Fairwood in Grayson County, fishing on the New River, and spending time with his camping crew. He was a hard worker who believed in doing things the right way and was employed by General Dynamics for 30 years. Cary Perkins was a friend to all who knew him and a good man who will be missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings.
Cary is survived by his wife, Paula J. Perkins of Bristol, Va.; son, Randy Perkins and wife, Eve of Abingdon, Va.; brother, Leonard Reeves and wife, Harriet of Thompson, Ga.; two grandchildren, Rose Perkins and Henry Perkins; several nieces and nephews; and his camping crew.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Royal Oak Presbyterian Church, Marion, Va. with Pastor Alan Gray and Pastor Steve Cathcart officiating. Burial will follow in the Carter-Fraley Cemetery, Duffield, Va. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10 until 11 a.m. at the Royal Oak Presbyterian Church, Marion, Va.
