James Monroe Martin

MARION, Va. James Monroe Martin, age 81, died Saturday, January 14, 2017, in Duffield, Va. Jimmy loved to hunt, fish and play baseball in his younger days. He was a master electrician and plumber in his work life for more than 40 years. In his free time, he loved to play bingo. He was preceded in death by his parents Preston and Essie Martin; brothers, Junior Martin and Harold Martin; sisters, Lillie Mae Owens and Sadie Lowman. Jimmy is survived by daughters, Sherri Thomas and husband Jerry of Marion, Va., Brenda Baer and husband, Michael of West Point, N.Y.; sons, Bobby David Martin of Fla., and James Michael Martin and wife, Lorie of Sugar Grove, Va.; sister, Roxie Thompson of Marion, Va., and brother, William Bruce Martin and wife, Sumire, of Prince George County, Va.; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Graveside service will be held Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Slemp Cemetery, Sugar Grove, Va. with Reverend Roger Frost officiating.
