ATKINS, Va.
JAMES MATTHEW "MATT" GRANDSTAFF, age 48, passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at his home.
Matt was a loving son, brother, father, "poppy" and friend to many. He loved anything that included hunting or shooting. He loved to work and was the proud owner of Grandstaff Tile. Matt was a good man, but the best thing he ever did was accept Jesus Christ as his Savior just a few weeks before he passed. He was a member of Connect Church in Chilhowie where his uncle Mark is the Pastor. He used these last weeks to make things right with many folks. Matt is now at the truest peace.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Franklin Grandstaff; grandparents, Marvin and Virginia Totten; and his faithful four-legged friends, JJ, Baby Girl, and George.
Matt is survived by his daughter, Tiffany Ashton Grandstaff; mother, Donna Lee Totten Grandstaff and her life partner, John Raymond Mullikin, all of Atkins, Va.; sisters, Corinza Marissa Sullins Cross and husband, Les of Lehigh Acres, Fla., Sharon Elizabeth Grandstaff and husband, James Harvey Taylor of Rural Retreat, Va., Julie Fonda Grandstaff and partner, Jack Billings, Jr. of Atkins, Va., and Virginia Dawn Thompson and husband, Leroy of Rural Retreat, Va.; grandchildren, Jacob Kayne Grandstaff and Cameron Lee Grandstaff Thompson; several special nieces and nephews; and special friends, Danny Sullins, Rusty Cox, Tommy Kegley and Richard Powell.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 21, at 11 a.m. at Freedom Tabernacle Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Totten officiating. Burial will follow in Resurrection Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday, September 20, 2018 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Freedom Tabernacle Baptist Church.
