ATKINS, Va.: JAMES PARLIER, age 91, died Monday, January 4, 2016 at Francis Marion Manor, Marion, Va.
He was a member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church. Mr. Parlier was a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Army Air Corps. He was a nose gunner in a B24 and had several bombing missions over Germany. He was a member of Marion Masonic Lodge# 31 A.F. & A.M. and also of Francis Marion VFW Post # 4667. Mr. Parlier served as chairman of Smyth County Red Cross on two different occasions. He was an avid supporter of the program having donated 124 pints of blood. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Dorothe Parlier. Mr. Parlier was the last surviving sibling of his immediate family.
Mr. Parlier is survived by three daughters, Teresa Gallacher and husband, Drew of Atkins, Va., Denise Williams and husband, Mike, and Susan Reid of Marion, Va.; one son, David Parlier and wife, Martha of Atkins, Va.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, January 7, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Mount Carmel United Methodist Church with Reverend Harry Howe and Reverend David Neel officiating. Entombment will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery, Marion, Virginia with Military Rites conducted by Francis Marion VFW Post #4667. The family will receive friends at the fellowship hall of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church following the entombment.
