Jenny R. Lauridsen, Marion, VA
Jenny Rogera Lauridsen, age 107, died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, January 15, 2010 at Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home. Born in Louisiana, she grew up and lived the first portion of her life in Chicago, Illinois. She has lived in Marion since 1950 and in her own home until December 2009.
She had a life long love of music and dancing, going back to age 16 when she toured professionally with the dance troupe "The Dangerous Girls." She was involved in many local charitable activities and informally adopted Francis Marion Manor where her husband spent his final years. She was also an accomplished seamstress, having worked many years as a clothing designer's proto-typer.
Always kind and positive, she laughingly said on the day of her passing, "I'm getting better in everyway, everyday." Into her mid-90s, she was walking over a mile per day.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Einer George Lauridsen; her sister, Grace Zimmer, of Chicago; and her son-in-law, James E. Burnette, of St. Louis, Missouri.
She is survived by her daughter, Georgia Burnette, of St. Louis; and her son & daughter-in-law, Robert & Pat Lauridsen, of Menlo Park, California; and three grandchildren, Jim Burnette, of San Jose, California, Julie Burnette, of St. Louis, and Adam Lauridsen, of San Francisco, California.
Those who knew her are invited to celebrate her life with her family and friends at an informal drop-in reception in her honor at the General Francis Marion Hotel, between 11 and 1 pm on Thursday, January 21.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution to a charity of your choice.
