Rural Retreat, Va.
Joan Bear Minnick age 77, passed away Friday, September 13, 2024 at her home.
As of today, there’s 1 billion and 1 stars in the sky. Joan was a selfless lady who would do anything for anybody without complaint. Most people would want her delicious cooking. She loved people and never met a stranger. Joan loved her family, especially her son, Michael, the love and light of her life and her three grandchildren who called her Mawmaw and made the bubbles on her porch. Joan loved the Hokies, she was a graduate of MSHS class of ’65, a member of the Quilt Guild, VGEA and First United Methodist Women’s Circle. Her passion was teaching science and her galaxy to so many of Mrs. Minnick’s students. She left her mark on them and she will always be loved and missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents Charles E. “Top” and Cordia Bear; brother, Billy Bear.
Joan is survived by her son, Michael Minnick and wife, Dinah of Rural Retreat, Va.; sisters, Becky Langston and Ellen Bear of Rural Retreat, Va.; three grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Wyatt, and Avery; several nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews.
