JoAnn Saunders

JoAnn Saunders, age 81, passed away peacefully, Monday, January 31, 2022, at her home in Christiansburg, Va.  

JoAnn was born in Potsdam, New York to a loving family. She graduated from Immaculate Heart School and continued to be a devout Catholic her entire life. JoAnn was also a devoted mother and central figure in her children’s lives, as well as a caring friend to all she knew. She will be greatly missed. We have peace knowing she has been reunited with her children in Heaven.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, Maurice and Virginia Leonard; son, Michael Snipas; daughter, Kristen Zeches; and sister, Jill Exford.  

JoAnn is survived by her daughters, Laura Smith of Erie, Pa., Amanda Snipas of Christiansburg, Va,; son, Nicholas Saunders of Christiansburg, Va.; sister, MaryAnn LaClair of Watertown, Ny; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend, Pat Valapka.  

A memorial mass will be held at a future date at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 35 Independence Blvd NW, Christiansburg, VA 24072.
