MARION, VIRGINIA: JOE GROVER DYSON, age 60, of Marion, Virginia went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, January 8, 2009 after a long courageous illness. He was the son of the late Clint and Edith Dyson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Ed Dyson, as well as a very special father-in-law and mother-in-law, Glen and Georgia Carter, two special sisters-in-law, Lillie Carter and Barbara Ritzo and two brothers-in-law, Oval Chapman and Alfred Ferguson. He was an army veteran and served as a military policeman while in the service. He worked 32 years at Johnston Memorial Hospital as a Registered Nurse in the Neonatal and Nursery Department. He was known for his dedication and care of the newborns, as well as a great support for the families of the infants he cared for. He was presented with the Humanitarian Award at Johnston Memorial Hospital in 1992. He was most of all a loving and devoted husband and father. Survivors are his wife, Betty Dyson and son, Christopher Dyson and wife, April, as well as four sisters, Debbie Dyson of Marion, Frances Ferguson of Marion, Faye Chapman of Uniontown, Ohio and Peggy Stuttaford of Sacramento, California and many special relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 12, 2009 at Seaver-Brown Chapel with his nephew, Rev. Adrian Witt and brother-in-law, Rev. Roger Carter officiating. Interment will follow at the Wassum Cemetery in Atkins, Virginia where military rites will be conducted by Marion VFW Post 4667. Nephews, Adrian Witt, Michael Witt, Mark Witt, and Aron Witt will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
