MARION, VIRGINIA: JOE LYNN MARCHANT, age 57, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at his home. Born August 4, 1947 in Smyth County, Virginia, to the late John and Carrie Dean Marchant, he was a veteran of the United States Navy having served two tours in the Vietnam War and was a member of the Seabees Construction Battalion. He was also a well-known, life long carpenter in Smyth County. In addition to his parents, Mr. Marchant was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Marchant. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Carrie Lynn and David Collett of Tampa, Florida. One son and daughter-in-law, Jason E. and Laura Marchant of Marion, Virginia. Two sisters and brothers-in-law, Norma and Billy Hart and Shelby and Bob Powell all of Marion, Virginia. Two brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles "C.L." and Frances Marchant of Staunton, Virginia, and Johnny, III and Linda Marchant of Buena Vista, Virginia. Four grandchildren, Gibson Collett, Owen Collett, Jared Marchant, and Nicholas Marchant. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 7, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Falling Water Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the Marchant Family Cemetery, Smyth County, Virginia, where military rites will be conducted by the Francis Marion V.F.W. Post #4667. The body will be taken to the church one hour before the service. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
