MARION, VIRGINIA: JOHN CROCKETT ANDERSON, age 79, died Thursday, September 1, 2011 at his home in Marion, Virginia.
After graduating from Rich Valley High School, he would serve his country in two branches of the military; the U.S. Marion Corps and the U. S. Army, until his retirement. He served his country well, traveling extensively in the states and overseas, having completed two tours of duty in Vietnam. He served on the Honor Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Washington, D.C. for several years. Throughout his life he maintained his wonderful sense of humor, joy and jest for life itself. He loved the Lord and taking care of his home and yard. His family will greatly miss him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Arlie and Mary Thelma Anderson; two brothers, Arlie Holmes Anderson and Robert M. Anderson and one sister, Shirley Anderson Helton.
John is survived by, one brother Neal Anderson and wife, Minnie Ann of Marion; two sisters, Dorothy A. Stevenson of Rich Valley and Linda A. Doyle of Marion and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be conducted Sunday, September 4, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Pastor Arthur Chapman and John's nephew, Kevin Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in Ridgedale Cemetery in Rich Valley with Military Rites conducted by Francis Marion VFW Post #4667. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
