John Harvey Grubb, Jr. age 83, resident of Marion, Va., passed away Monday, May 20, 2024 at Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, Tenn.
Mr. Grubb was born in 1940 to John H. Grubb, Sr. and Doris Painter Grubb. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, and his eldest son, John Grubb, III.
Mr. Grubb is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nancy P. Grubb of Marion, Va.; children, Diane Long and husband, Kenny of Abingdon, Va. and Kevin Grubb of Fort Chiswell, Va.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Grubb passed away after suffering from serious illness. John was a Christian man whose life is being celebrated by family and friends knowing that he is with JESUS CHRIST. John was a graduate of Rural Retreat High School and attended Emory & Henry College where he played four varsity sports. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing golf with family and friends, creating many fond memories. John’s greatest contribution to society came from his many years spent serving the public. His career as follows: 20 years as Virginia State Trooper, 8 ½ years Chief of Police – Town of Marion, elected Sheriff of Smyth County Virginia in 1991; retired in 1996 after 32 ½ years spent in Law Enforcement; appointed by Governor George Allen to the VA Science Services Board, and later to the Comm. Trans. Board, serving over a decade. John had enjoyment in knowing that he had helped to make his community and country a better place. He took pride in the young officers that he helped mentor and train, who have made positive impacts through the decades.
Family will receive friends Sunday, May 26, 2024 from 3 until 5 p.m. at Fraziers’ Seaver-Brown Chapel, 237 East Main Street, Marion VA 24354. Funeral services will begin at 5 p.m. with the Reverend Emmitt Wilson officiating. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Rose Lawn Cemetery, 4410 Lee Highway, Marion VA 24354.
