Dr. John F. Jones, O.D., formerly of Marion, Virginia, passed away Friday, May 31, 2024, in Mountain Home, Arkansas. He was born April 21, 1937, in Montgomery, West Virgina to Charles and Edith (Small) Jones. John married Joy Stewart in El Paso, Texas July 22, 1961. He attended West Virginia Tech, Marshall University and received a doctorate from the Southern College of Optometry. John served three years as an optometrist at the William Beaumont General Hospital in El Paso, Texas. He was a deacon at Marion Baptist Church and served on the Board of Trustees at Oak Hill Academy. John also served 10 years on the Virginia Board of Optometry, with 3 years as chairman. Also served 4 years as a member of the Virginia Board of Health Regulatory Boards and practiced optometry in Marion for 34 years. John served as a volunteer missionary to provide eye care to Brazil, Guatemala, Tanzania, Antigua, Honduras and St. Lucia. He is preceded in death by his parents and a son, Jeff Jones. John is survived by his wife, Joy Jones of Mountain Home, Arkansas; a daughter, Jodi (Bill) Pierce of West Plains, Missouri; many brothers and sisters-in-law and cousins who meant so much to him. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society Chapel in Mountain Home under the direction of Conner Family Funeral Home & Cremation Center.
