MARION, Va: Joseph William “Bill” Naff, Sr., age 77 passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on February 1, 2016 after a lengthy illness.
He was born on March 2, 1938. He was devoted to his wife and children. “Pa” absolutely adored his six grandchildren. Bill was known for his hard work, big heart and his perceptive, candid and honest nature.
He was predeceased in death by his parents, Walter “Pete” and Emma Lou Heldreth Naff and by three sisters, Shirley Snider, Betty Cress and Joan Norris.
He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Blevins Naff and his three children, Sherry Naff Moran and husband David of Richmond, Joseph William Naff, Jr. and wife Margie of Marion and Shannon Naff of Roanoke; and sister, Rebecca Branson of Wytheville. Bill is also survived by six grandchildren, Katie Moran of Baltimore, Md., Emily Athas and husband Robert of New York, NY, Eleanor Moran of Charlottesville, Courtney Naff of Marion, Evan Naff of Blacksburg and Wilson Naff of Harrisonburg. He is also survived by a large extended family.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 6, 2016 from 1:00 – 3:00 at Seaver-Brown Funeral Home in Marion. At his request, his body has been donated to further medical research at Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Smyth County Community Hospital and his caregivers Ann Ball and Lavada Jessee.
