SUGAR GROVE, Va.; JOY YOUNG SCOTT, age 87, died Thursday, October 15, 2015 at her home in Sugar Grove.
Joy was a loving wife, wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her brother Billy described her as an awesome sister. Joy led by example. Her faith and love of her Lord and family were the most important sustainers in her life. Her life was all about her church, and her family. She was a devoted steward of her land. She was a light to all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Richmond Scott; parents, Bill and Virginia Kiser Young; and sister, Gay Nell Young.
Joy is survived by four daughters, Joyce Henderlite and husband, Doug of Marion Va., Sandra Haga and husband, James, of Hillsville, Va., Sue Combs and husband, Gwyn of Sugar Grove, Va., and Debbie Hawkins and, Terry "Sput" Hawkins of Crockett, Va.; one brother, Billy Young and wife, Gerri of Boones Mill, Va.; six grandchildren, Michael Henderlite, Monica Porter and husband, Michael, Eric Combs and wife, Heather, Andrew Combs and special friend, Alisha Gray, Rebecca Griffith and husband, Justin, and Jonathan Hawkins; four great-grandchildren, Sarah Greer, Matthew Combs, Jacob Porter and Kendall Porter; two nephews, Greg Young and Michael Young.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 18, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Elizabeth United Methodist Church with Reverend Mike Dixon officiating. Burial will follow in Scott Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, from 5 until 7 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
