Joyce E. Cornette

MARION, Va.

Joyce Eblen Cornette, age 93, passed away Thursday, May 26, 2022 at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, Va.

Joyce loved life. She loved her family and was proud of her work with the Smyth County School Board as the very organized assistant to the superintendent. Joyce was a long-standing member of the First United Methodist Church and loved to sing in the Joyful Noise Choir. When she wasn’t working or singing, she spent her time reading books, attending the Barter Theater, collecting music boxes, cooking and visiting her family. She especially loved to travel to see Ruby and stay in the cabin. Joyce loved the Bank of Marion trips and had the magnet souvenirs to prove it. She loved being Grandma Joyce and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, Reverend S.N. and Lila Mae Eblen; husband, Burchelle J. Cornette; sisters, Sarah Ann Eblen, Ruby E. Hollingsworth; brothers, J. Paul Eblen, Philip Eblen; and grandson, Clayton Cregger.

She is survived by her step-daughter, Judy Cregger of Marion, Va.; grandchild, Brian Cregger and wife, Brandi of Marion, Va.; great-grandchildren, Isaiah Cregger and Josef Cregger; nieces and nephews, Paul Hollingsworth and wife, April, Lois Hollingsworth, Dr. Samuel Hollingsworth, Sue Sink and husband, Jerry, Steve Eblen and John Eblen; and several beloved great nieces and nephews

The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 1, 2022 from 5 until  7 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 7 p.m. with Reverend Dr. James Bennington officiating. Graveside services will be held Thursday, June 2, 2022 at 11a.m. at Rose Lawn Cemetery, Marion, Va.

The family is thankful for the care and friendship during her stay at English Meadows in Abingdon, Va.
