Joyce G. George age 96, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2024 at Friendship Health and Rehab Center, Roanoke, Va.

Mrs. George was a 1947 graduate and Valedictorian of Johnston Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and had worked at Lee Memorial Hospital, Marion General Hospital and later, retired from Southwestern State Hospital. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, William O. George and step-daughter, Martha A. Burton.

She is survived by one daughter, Jeri Barnett of Roanoke, Virginia; one son, James Deel of Boones Mill, Virginia; five grandchildren, Erin Barnett, Jason Deel, Erika Deel, Nathan Burton and Marthel Burton.  

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Rose Lawn Cemetery with Pastor Paul Shallenburg officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:15 a.m. to leave in procession.
