MARION, VIRGINIA: JOYCE DICKSON GREENWOOD age 86, died Sunday, September 16, 2012.
She was a member of the Royal Oak Presbyterian Church, Wilderness Road Garden Club, Daughters of the American Revolution and the Smyth County Retired Teachers Association. She was a graduate of Central High in Knoxville, Tennessee, Marion College, and VCU in Richmond, Virginia. She was a teacher for 34 years. Her first year of teaching was in Williamsburg, Virginia 1948-1949. Her remaining years of teaching were in Smyth County Schools. She retired in 1986.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Ruth Overly of Somerset, Kentucky and brother, B. C. Dickson of Athens, Tennessee.
Joyce is survived by her husband of 64 years, M. L. "Bill" Greenwood, Jr. of Marion, Virginia; one son, Dr. Jeffrey D. Greenwood and wife Deborah of Knoxville, Tennessee; grandson, Dixon H. Greenwood of Knoxville, Tennessee; granddaughter, Caitlin H. Greenwood of Knoxville, Tennessee; sister, Doris Jankowski and husband Ernest of Miami, Florida; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at Royal Oak Presbyterian Church at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Alan Gray and Reverend Andrew Bansemer officiating. The family will receive friends at the church after the service. Private inurnment will be held at Ebenezer Lutheran Church Columbarium.
