Joyce Love Kirk age 82, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2025 at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, Va.

Joyce was a brightly lit candle in a dark world – a huge presence in a tiny package, her middle name said it all “Love.” She spread love everywhere she went, not just her love, but God’s love, leading by example by living a life of Christian values. She spent her entire life taking care of others. To be as loving and kind as Joyce was, she was also one of the strongest women you would ever meet – strong in her faith, her love, her integrity, and in her compassion for others. She was an avid gardener and she loved her birds, always making sure their feeders were full. Joyce loved her family, her church, her pastor and her church family more than anything – and they all loved her. She was one of kind and will be missed by many.  

Preceded in death by her husband, Carroll Joe Kirk, Sr.; son, Carroll Joe Kirk, Jr.; Milton James Ford and Mary Jane Elizabeth Ford (Sugar Grove, Va.); seven siblings, Cecil Ford (died during WWII), Stella Campbell, Mable Puckett, Thelma Ray, Violet French, John Ford and Willis Ford. Joyce was the last born of the eight Ford children.

Joyce is survived by her son, Gordon James Kirk of Sugar Grove, Va.; daughter, Carolyn Hess; grandsons, CJ Kirk (Kristen) and Anthony Goodwin, all of Abingdon, Va.; great-grandchild Kayleigh Leighann Cole; several nieces, nephews & their families; Valley View Baptist Church family; furry friend, dog- Spanky. 

The family will receive friends Friday, January 31, 2025 from 5 until 7 p.m. at Valley View Baptist Church, 1622 Slab Town Road, Sugar Grove, Va. Funeral services will begin at 7 p.m. with Pastor Chuck Stout officiating. Graveside services will be held Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Kirk Cemetery, Slab Town Road, Sugar Grove, Va. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m.
