CHILHOWIE, VIRGINIA: JUNE W. CALLIS, age 83, died Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at Francis Marion Manor in Marion, VA.
She was born on June 21, 1930 in Newnan, Georgia to the late Frank and Agnes Wortham. June is preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Ray "Sam" Callis.
She worked as a secretary at Gulf Oil Company in Atlanta, Georgia for many years prior to moving to Marion in 1961. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She enjoyed life, never met a stranger and will be remembered as a kind and generous woman with a phenomenal sense of humor.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Dawn and Jerry Archer of Chilhowie, VA and Tina and Dwayne Haga of Atkins, VA; five grandchildren Chad Archer and wife Jennifer, Samantha Archer and fiancé Sam Till, Johnathan Harmon and fiancée, Haley Hall, Skyler Harmon and Rhiannon Haga; and 3 great-grandchildren; Kelsey Harris, Cooper Archer and Camron Harmon and her beautiful calico cat Chloe. Additional survivors include special cousin, Brenda Templeton of Ellenwood, GA; special friend Susan Buttram of Deland, FL; and a host of many friends young and old, including the neighborhood dog, Maggie.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Smyth County Ambulance Service for the kindness and special care shown to June on several occasions by Billy and Luke.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, May 30 at 11:00am at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Rev. Alan Gray officiating. Entombment will follow at Rose Lawn Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be Erma Anderson, Brenda Bennett, Dana McIntyre, Connie Null, Debbie Rogers and Linda Stone. Honorary pallbearers will be Sally Mauck, Donna Untiedt, Laura Waddell and Susan Warren. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to American Cancer Society P.O.
