MARION, VIRGINIA: JUNE PUGH HARRINGTON, age 80, died on Sunday, December 23, 2007, of complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) at Bayonet Point Medical Center in Hudson, Florida.
She was married for 57 years to Roberts H. "Bob" Harrington, Jr., who died in 2004.
A daughter of the late Stephen L. Pugh and Rose C. Pugh Whisman, she was born in Volney, Grayson County, Virginia, and lived her early life in Volney and Marion, Virginia, where she and Bob retired in 1991 after living in Texas, Tennessee, Kentucky, and the Washington, D.C. area. She worked for the Smyth County Treasurer's Office, the State Department, Bristol Memorial Hospital, Kingsport Press, Pioneer News in Bullitt County, Kentucky, and the Department of the Air Force at the Pentagon. After returning to Marion, she worked for the U.S. Census Bureau and volunteered with the Red Cross and the Salvation Army.
In addition to her parents and her husband, June was preceded in death by her sisters, Gladys Parsons, Trixie Crockett, Marie Parson; and brother, Stanley Pugh. She is survived by two daughters, Sandra J. Daugherty and husband, Jim of Fairfax, Virginia and Susan J. Harrington of Atlanta, Georgia; one son, Roberts H. "Dusty" Harrington III and wife, Jeannie of St. James City, Florida; granddaughter, Quincey Harrington and husband, Jason Bowen of Knoxville, Tennessee; grandson, Robert Daugherty and wife, Sue McDermott of Burke, Virginia; step-grandsons, James Daugherty II and wife, Kelly of Alexandria, Virginia and Joshua White of Birmingham, Alabama; step-granddaughters, Jennifer Esposito and husband, Nibbie and Heather Long and husband, Patrick all of Florida; great-grandson, Lukas Bowen; step-great-grandsons, Conor Daugherty of Alexandria, Virginia and Dominic Esposito of Florida; sister Pearl Bradshaw of Marion, Virginia; brother, Joe Pugh of Hudson, Florida; step-brother, David Whisman of Lexington, Kentucky; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 4, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Rev. Alan Gray officiating. Private burial will be held in Pugh Family Cemetery, Volney, Virginia. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Friday evening at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
