Kathleen Johanna McHenry Dursi, 84, beloved wife of the late Louis M. Dursi, Sr., went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 2, 2005 at Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion, Virginia.
A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 6, 2005, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Marion, with the Rev. Paul Maier officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery in Marion. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 5, at Seaver-Brown Funeral Service, 237 E. Main Street, Marion.
She was born December 16, 1920, in Oswego, NY, to the late John Thomas and Catherine Swain McHenry. A graduate of Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Buffalo, NY, she entered the military as a Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps. She married Lt. Lou Dursi on June 10, 1944, in England, where both were serving as part of the Armed Forces taking part in the aftermath of the D-Day campaign.
She was active in family and church activities in Sts. John and Paul's Church in Mamaroneck, NY, and St. Mary's Church in Bethel, Conn., where they raised their large family, and at St. John the Evangelist Church in Marion, where Lou and Kathleen had moved in 1986. There she was active until recent years in the Ladies' Guild, that created crafts and sewed quilts for the church bazaar.
She is survived by six daughters: Maureen Dursi, of the home; Patricia and husband Daniel Ast, Pensacola, FL; Rita and husband Gerald Johnson, Laurinburg, NC; Kathleen and husband Antonino Vinci, Berlin, CT; Rosemary and husband Paul Lilley, San Antonio, FL; Marcia Dursi, Annandale, VA; three sons: Louis M. Dursi, Jr. Princeton, NJ; James V. Dursi, Lakeland, FL; and John T. Dursi and wife Christina Strom, Marengo, WI; and Bernadette O'Donoghue, Annandale, VA, who was like a daughter to her and Lou; thirteen grandchildren: Kathy and husband Nate Butler, Orlando, FL; Jonathan and wife Robbie Dursi, Toronto, Ontario, Jeffrey and wife Janice Dursi, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Patrick Dursi, Princeton, NJ; Anthony Dursi, Montreal, Quebec, Robert H. Johnson, Juneau, AK; Katie Johnson, Laurinburg, NC; Marinella Vinci, of Hamden, CT; Enzo Vinci, Berlin, CT; Denise and husband DeWayne Colston of Rapid City, SD; Pfc. Corey J. Dursi, Ft. Carson, CO; and Alex and Matthew Dursi of Conway, AR; four great-grandchildren: Stephanie Collette Colston, of Rapid City, SD; Adrian Vinci, of Hamden, CT; Jonathan Christian Vavalis, Laurinburg, NC; and Thai Dursi, Halifax, Nova Scotia; and more than a score of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Lou, in 1998; her parents; a sister, Marie Kane; brothers John, Robert, and Joseph McHenry; and several nieces and nephews.
