MARION, Va.
KENNETH G. "KEN" LIGHT, age 85, died Thursday, April 13, 2017 at his home in Marion.
He was born October 19, 1931 in Beckley, W. Va. to the late Omer and Thelma Light. Kenneth was a loving husband, married to the love of his life Jewell for almost 61 years. Ken was a wonderful father who loved his boys. He was very active in the community. Ken enjoyed volunteering to ring the bell for the Salvation Army, Civitan Club, Project Cross Roads, and Marion VFW Post #4667. Ken served his country for 31 years in the Army, Air Force, and retired from the Navy. When he wasn't working or volunteering, he loved to bowl. Ken was a longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church. He loved his Lord, his family and his country. Kenneth Light will be missed by many family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Bette Taylor and brother, Carrol Light.
Ken is survived by his loving wife, Jewell Light of Marion, Va.; two sons, Jim Light and wife, Karla of Lexington Park, Md., and Tom Light and wife, Melody of Bacliff, Tex.; two sisters, Wanda Wightman of Lakeview, Mich. and Nancy Pat Hinte and husband, Bill of Columbus, Oh.; brother, Frank Light of Cochranville, Penn.; four grandchildren, Chase Light and Cole, Dalton and Mason Barry; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Monday, April 17, 2017 at Seaver-Brown Chapel at 7 p.m. with the Reverend Emmitt Wilson and the Reverend Harry Howell officiating. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Rose Lawn Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard and Marion VFW Post #4667. The family will receive friends Monday, from 5 until 7 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
