Abingdon, Va.
LaVerne "Rich" Richard Plenger, age 81, of Abingdon VA, passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at Johnston Memorial Hospital.
He was born on October 14, 1936 in Greybull, WY a son of the late Elmer Plenger Sr. and Alameda Caldwell Plenger. Rich lived a remarkable life including teaching and acting as superintendent in the WY wilderness, service in the pre-Vietnam Army Security Agency, and acting as manager for traveling music groups in the 1960's. He met his soulmate of 24 years while performing in a lounge act in Reno, NV while she was a Keno runner. They settled in Moorpark CA where he taught 5th and 6th grade classes for 27 years in the Simi Valley Unified School District.
In addition to his parents Rich was also preceded in death by his wife Priscilla Rogers Plenger and his brother Elmer Plenger Jr.
He is survived by four daughters, Kristin (Terry) Plenger, Susanna Cox, Alameda Dianna (Chris) McElraft, and Maryanna Wilcox. As well as six beloved grandchildren who were the light of his life, Caden and Ella McElraft, Mikaela Cox, and Joshua, Zachary, and Grace Wilcox.
A Celebration of Life will be held by family at a future date and interment will be at the family plot in Greybull, WY.
