CERES, VIRGINIA: LESLIE THOMPSON BUCHANAN, age 81, died Friday, February 18, 2011 at his home in Ceres, Virginia. He was born January 16, 1930 in Rich Valley, Virginia, the youngest son of the late Luther D. and Cynthia Maloyed Buchanan. The family moved to Arizona where Les grew up. He spent four years in the U.S. Navy and then returned to the home place to work with his brother, George, where they farmed and had a dairy farm. In 1954 he married Mary Ann Hays in Chatham Hill, Virginia. They moved to Florida for approximately twenty years where Les had a paving business. When Les and Mary Ann decided to retire, they returned to Rich Valley, Virginia. Les was a special person to all who knew him. His family and friends all loved him very much and he will be greatly missed.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Leslie, Jr. and Cheryll Buchanan of St. Petersburg, Florida; one granddaughter, Sara Jane Buchanan of St. Petersburg, Florida; one brother, George L. Buchanan of Tucson, Arizona; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hays Family Cemetery, Ceres, Virginia with the Reverend Jeremy Dunn officiating.
