MARION, VIRGINIA: LESTER RAY HALL, age 71, died Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at Hospice House of Bristol, Tennessee. He was born in Smyth County on February 5, 1936 to the late Noah Lee and Henrietta Hall. Besides his parents he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Glenn, Eugene, and Garland Hall. He was a member of Furnace Hill Lutheran Church. Initially he was active in youth ministries and later did interim lay ministry for Rev. Kenneth Killinger. He graduated from Marion Senior High School in 1955 and attended Washington and Lee University. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Emory and Henry College and a Masters Degree at East Tennessee State University. His teaching career began in Norfolk and included Bristol, Virginia. He served as principal at Highland View Elementary School and Administrative Assistant at Bristol, Virginia school board office. He retired as Assistant Superintendent of Bristol City Schools in 1991. His hobbies included traveling throughout the U.S. and Europe. He was an avid photographer and shared many of his experiences captured on film with family and friends. He is survived by three brothers and sisters-in law, Garnett and Jean Hall, and Joseph and Margaret Hall all of Marion, and Marvin and Marylyn Hall of Newbury Park, California; one sister and brother-in-law, Carrie and Graham Bourhill, M.D. of Marion, Virginia; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Robert Meade and family of Bristol, Virginia also survive. Funeral services will be held at Seaver-Brown Chapel on Friday, November 30, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. with Rev. officiating. Graveside services will be held Saturday, December 1, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in Rose Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday evening, November 30, 2007 from 5:30 p.m. until time of service at Seaver-Brown Chapel. The family expresses its gratitude and appreciation to Broadmore Assisted Living and Hospice House of Bristol, Tennessee for their excellent care.
