Mrs. Leta (Box) Cummings, age 101, of Mitchell Valley Drive, Marion, Virginia, died on Sunday, January 16, 2011, at Francis Marion Manor.
Leta Cummings was a native and life long resident of Smyth County, the daughter of James Henry and Sally (Totten) Box of Wassum Valley. She was a dedicated homemaker all her life.
Leta was received into membership of Greenwood Methodist Church in 1924. At the time of her death, she was the oldest living member of the congregation.
Preceding her in death were her husband of fifty six years, George Neal Cummings; a sister, Susie (Box) Wolfe; brothers, Garland, Taylor, Fred, Glennon, Everette, Kennard; and a half-sister, Frances.
Her immediate family members surviving are: Wayne and Pat Cummings, Johnson City, Tennessee, Wilburn (Buddy) and wife Billie Cummings, Marion, Virginia, Eleanor (Cummings) Jackson, Raleigh, North Carolina, Joseph (Joe) and wife, Beth Cummings, Roanoke, Virginia; eight grandchildren, twenty one great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend thanks to the many friends and especially to the caring staff of Francis Marion Manor and Hospice of Southwest Virginia for their loving care of their mother.
Funeral Services will be conducted at Greenwood United Methodist Church by The Reverend J. Michael Teague, Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m.
Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery, Highway 11 East, Marion, Virginia.. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel or anytime at the home of her son, Buddy Cummings, 457 Boxwood Lane, Marion, Virginia.
