MARION, VIRGINIA: LINDA BYRD MELLINGER, age 57, died Wednesday, October 12, 2005 at her home in Marion, Virginia. Born in Marion, Virginia to the late Lee and Opal Cook Byrd, she served God through her membership in the East End Baptist Church all of her life. She also served with the Lebanon Baptist Association and WMU of Virginia. She also served her Lord through the missions field with a short term mission trip to Budapest, Hungary, and areas near the Serbian border. Linda was in the banking profession for over 30 years, most recently serving as Vice President and Commercial Lending Officer with The Bank of Marion. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Byrd Greer and Evelyn Byrd Williams, and one brother, H.W. Byrd. She is survived by one daughter, Jamie Pike and husband, Robert, one grandson, Joshua Pike and two step-grandchildren Tim and April Pike all of Marion, Virginia. Her twin sister, Brenda Byrd McFarlane of Marion, Virginia; Two brothers, Rev. Glenn Byrd and wife, Mary Lou of High Point, North Carolina, and Ronald P. Byrd and wife, Lucille of Marion, Virginia. Several nieces, nephews, a host of friends and family also survive. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 15, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at East End Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Gilbert and Rev. Grady Byrd officiating. Burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial Gardens, Rural Retreat, Virginia. The body will be taken to the church one hour before the service. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Flowers will be accepted however Linda's preference would be donations to the Lottie Moon Mission Offering through the East End Baptist Church, 414 Groseclose Street, Marion, Virginia 24354.
