MARION, VIRGINIA: MADGE PLUMMER POWELL, age 95, died Sunday, May 3, 2015 at Smyth County Community Hospital, Marion, Virginia.
Mrs. Powell was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother, "Nanny Madge". She was an active member of Marion Baptist Church where she worked with the children and youth programs. Madge was a past president of the WMU/WMS and one of the Lottie Moon Circle members. Her small frame packed a big punch! Madge was always smiling. Her sense of humor was wonderful. If you were just down in the dumps or needed a pick me up, a minute or two with Madge would make it all better. Her intellect and wit carried her right through, until her last breath here. She was just "Mama". She loved her Lord, her family and her friends. Her absence will leave a huge space in the lives of her loved ones. Mrs. Powell was the daughter of the late Cicero and Jenny Plummer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Winiford Powell; sister, Georgia P. Winebarger and brothers, Graham Plummer and Brady Plummer.
Mrs. Powell is survived by two daughters, Betty Mabe and husband, Harold of Abingdon, Virginia and Marjorie "Margie" Akers and husband, Bill of Dublin, Virginia; granddaughter, Cynthia Goodrich and husband, Kenneth of King, North Carolina; great-granddaughter, Amanda Leigh Goodrich of Charlotte, North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Marion Baptist Church with Reverend Darrell Fletcher officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery, Marion, Virginia. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
