MARION, VIRGINIA: MARTIN L. "BILL" GREENWOOD, age 87, died Thursday, February 14, 2013 at his home in Marion, Virginia.
Bill was born February 10, 1926 in Marion, Virginia to the late Martin L. and Ina Phillipi Greenwood, Sr. He was a lifetime member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church, a graduate of Marion High School and the College of William and Mary. Bill served in the U.S. Army Air Force in World War II. He worked 35 years at Harwood Manufacturing Company and retired as Virginia Group Manufacturing Manager in 1988. Bill was involved in many community activities and organizations. He was member of the Lions Club, the Smyth County Chamber of Commerce, a past president of the Chamber of Commerce of Marion Inc.; he served on the Marion Town Council and was a member of the Marion Planning Commission.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Joyce Greenwood; brothers, Marvin and Harold Greenwood; sister, Thelma G. Scott and her husband, S.D. Scott.
Bill is survived by his son, Dr. Jeffrey D. Greenwood and wife, Deborah; grandson, Dixon H. Greenwood and wife, Anna Kathryn; granddaughter, Caitlin H. Greenwood all of Knoxville, Tennessee; sister, Betty G. Wilson and husband, James of Blacksburg, Virginia; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 17, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, Marion Virginia with Pastor Andrew Bansemer officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Private inurnment will be held at Ebenezer Lutheran Church Columbarium.
