MARION, VIRGINIA: MARY COPENHAVER PENNINGTON, age 89, died Tuesday, April 08, 2014 at Smyth County Community Hospital, Marion, Virginia.
Mrs. Pennington was a retired teacher from the Greenwood School; and she also retired from Roses Department Store after 31 years of service. A life long member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church since the mid 30's Mrs. Pennington was an active class member and loved to volunteer at the Senior Citizens Center. She taught Circle and could always be counted on to serve. Mrs. Pennington was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon White and Nannie Marvin Rector Copenhaver.
She is survived by one son, Marvin Pennington and wife Cleta of Marion, Virginia; one step-son Delmer Pennington and wife Jodi of Chilhowie, Virginia; five grandchildren, Wayne Pennington and wife, Jennifer of Buffalo Junction, Virginia, Farrah Vaughn and husband, Terry, T.J. Pennington, all of Marion, Virginia, Diana DeBord and husband, Robbie and Kristy Malchano and husband Brent, all of Rural Retreat, Virginia; six great-grandchildren, Emily, Savannah, Jordan, Jacob, Kelsey and Alexis; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 11, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Ebenezer Lutheran Church with Pastor Andrew Bansemer officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery, Marion, Virginia. The family will receive friends Thursday, April 10, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Hands of Grace in Seven Mile Ford and to the 3rd Floor staff at Smyth County Community Hospital's PCU unit.
