Mary Lou Stinson

Lebanon, Virginia.

Mary Lou Stinson age 79, passed away Friday, February 14, 2025 at her home.

Mary Lou was a lifelong resident of Russell County Virginia, a Christian of non-denominational faith. She graduated from Honaker High School and attended Virginia Highlands College. She worked in the Russell County Courthouse for several years as well as the Russell County school system. She was also an insurance agent but, it wasn’t until later in life that she found her true calling - working with the elderly. She was an animal lover, and friend to so many. The family wants to thank everyone for the love and support shown by so many at Mary Lou’s time of need.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Stinson; son, Ray Stinson, Jr.; parents, Curt and Dorthey Childress; granddaughter, Bryleigh Stinson; brothers, Jim and Willis Childress; best friend, the late Kay Phillips. 

Mary Lou is survived by her daughter, Shanta Stinson of Abingdon, VA.; daughter-in-law, Danielle Stinson of Abingdon, VA.; sister, Joan Slaughter and husband, Jess of Blountville, TN.; brother, Jessee Childress of Lebanon, VA.; sisters-in-law, Sissy Childress of Michigan and Nancy Childress of Honaker, VA.; brother-in-law, Jerry Stinson; grandchildren, Ella Stinson and wife, Chloe; great-grandchildren, Milena Stinson, Kaysen Stinson, and Charli Stinson; nieces and nephews, Kim Joyce, JL Stinson, Amy Childress, January Murphy, Billy Kim and Donna Stinson; special family friends, John Henry, Pat Smith, Jane Thornhill, Ralph Taylor, Sharon Jessie, Janie Henderson, Kim Forest, Rebecca Kestner and family.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Mary’s Birthday, May 29, 2025, weather permitting. Please contact Shanta at a later date for details.
