MARION, VIRGINIA: MARY ALICE VANHOY, age 70, widow of Hubert W. "Van" VanHoy, died Monday, August 9, 2004 in Sentara Leigh Hospital, Norfolk, Virginia. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and an avid fishing enthusiast rain or shine and she also loved to work in her garden. She was also a good friend to many. Mrs. VanHoy is survived by a daughter, Deborah Phipps and husband, Scott of Virginia Beach, Virginia. One son, Kenneth Wayne VanHoy and wife, Dollie of Marion, Virginia. Three sisters, Martha Fowler of Marion, Virginia; Mable Kellahan of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and Helen Nance of South Carolina. One brother, Paul Nobles of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Her mother-in-law, Stella VanHoy of Seven Mile Ford, Virginia. Four grandchildren, Amy Button and husband, Mike, Mac Phipps, Laura Fisher and husband, Troy, and Brandi VanHoy. Five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive. Graveside Services will be held Friday, August 13, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at Round Hill Cemetery, Marion, Virginia, with Rev. Mike Owens officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.
