Melinda Harris Atkins

Melinda Harris Atkins age 59, passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, Va.

Melinda fought a courageous battle with cancer and never gave up her fight and finally won Tuesday afternoon when she found herself face to face with Jesus. Melinda was a loving wife, mom and nanny to the joys of her life. She loved spending time with her family-especially at the beach in the same hotel and all the same restaurants every year and working in her flowers. In honor of Melinda, go get a Pals hotdog. Melinda’s smile and zest for life will be missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Sylvia Harris; maternal grandparents, Sidney and Oma Lee Vernon; paternal grandparents, Jack and Christine Harris.

Melinda is survived by her loving husband, Gale Atkins III; sons, Andrew Atkins and wife, Courtney and Caleb A. Greer, all of Marion, Va.; sister, Kathy Ross and husband, Bob of Boones Mill, Va.; brother-in-law, Steve Atkins and his son, Chris of Marion, Va.; five grandchildren, Brooklynn, Psyden, Eevee, Raegan, Brayleigh, all of Marion, Va.; adopted grandchildren, Eli Stuart, Kayleigh Stuart, Peyton Stuart and their parents, Meghan and Zack Stuart; nieces, Delania Norris and husband, Tony of Marion, Va., Amanda Cuddy of Fincastle, Va.; nephew, Bobby Ross of Boones Mill, Va.; uncle, Dennis Vernon and wife, Donna of Marion, Va.; aunt, Patsy Frye of Chilhowie, Va.; several other adored family also survives.

The family wants to express their many thanks to the Cancer Center and the 2100 crew at Johnston Memorial Hospital.

The family will receive friends, Friday, November 03, 2023 from 5 until 7 p.m. at Fraziers’ Seaver-Brown Chapel, 237 East Main Street, Marion, Va. Funeral services will begin at 7 p.m. with Pastor Matt Holman officiating. Burial will be private.
