MARION, VIRGINIA: DR. MERVIN E. MECK, age 89, died, Monday, April 9, 2007 in Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home. "Doctor, humanitarian, benefactor, farmer, forester, hunter, conservator. Intelligent, articulate but plain spoken, tough but gentle-spirited, thrifty but generous, scholar with a sharp inquisitive mind. A mind of wit and wisdom. Merv loved good food, good friends, books, quiet time, naps, children, and nature. He loved the mountains, country living, animals, his gator, and daily rides on the farm. He was a loving husband, brother, father, grand and great-grandfather. He loved his family and extended families as we in turn loved him. He was a friend to all and the epitome of a true Christian gentleman. We will all miss Merv-the ready smile, the twinkle in his eyes, the wit, laughter, kindness, and gentleness, the beautiful white hair, the warm handshakes and hugs. We are all better for having known you. As surely as Heaven exists, you are now there, taking your well-deserved, pain-free rest. (In the words of Frank Cassell, brother-in-law and friend)" He is survived by his wife, Louise C. Meck of Marion, Virginia; four sons, Mervin Earl Meck II of Atlanta, Georgia, William H.
